9 days left...

After spending 57 hours in my classroom last week (no exaggeration, I did the math), these beautiful flowers given to me by sweet little seven year olds balance everything out and help me remember why I do it.

Thus making me a happy and content teacher.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all the women in the world. And especially to my mama, whom I love so so much.

In honor of this special day, I have composed and performed a rap. Enjoy.

Disclaimer: I really didn’t do this rap, but I felt like this four year old girl had taken the words right out of my heart.

real blogging

I am taking a few minutes while waiting for a study group to do some actual blogging. The semester ended last week. I really didn’t think I would survive, but after several days off from school, endless nights working/eating at bambinos, and a few weeks off from the gym, I’ve gained 62 pounds, an A in one class and what I am sure will be my first B in the other. I’m a little disappointed, but am dealing with the fact that I’ve had pretty mitigating circumstances this semester and that I’m lucky to have made it through at all.

For a few days I started to feel relieved and like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulder. But then I realized I still have 16 days of first grade (which include a lot of grading and scrapbook making), a huge comprehensive exam for my master’s program to study for and take, 50 hours of work with parents/children for my project, and a 90 page paper to write. I may have additional nervous breakdowns in the future.

Among all this, I am applying for teaching jobs in Canada. I’ve decided since Idaho doesn’t seem to value teachers, I need to move somewhere that does. I’ll have my master’s in July, but instead of a $6,000 increase, I’ll be getting a $2,000 decrease in pay. That is just not right.

To top everything off I have been sick since Monday. And a sick, stressed out teacher in May leads to very little patience left for six and seven year olds.

Oh, and it snowed today.

Do I have the worst life ever yet?

On a more positive note, I am very excited and happy about the fact that as soon as school gets out, I am heading to Canada to get my paper, diet, and exercise all under control, without any distractions. And I’ll be surrounded by my family, which instantly increases my level of happiness!
